Spectrum Technologies is a mid-sized IoT startup specializing in smart solutions for housing societies. We partnered with them to design a mobile application for their gardening automation system. The app delivers a seamless and intuitive experience, making smart gardening accessible for every resident.

Objective

Our goal was to design a mobile application that simplifies gardening automation for housing societies. The app needed to provide residents and society managers with centralized control, an intuitive interface, and a seamless experience that complements Spectrum Technologies’ IoT hardware.

Challenge

Spectrum Technologies had developed robust IoT devices to automate gardening for housing societies, but without a mobile application, the user experience was fragmented. Residents and society managers had to depend on manual controls or separate systems, which limited the convenience of automation and reduced overall engagement.

The absence of a centralized, user-friendly platform also made it harder for non-technical users to adopt the solution with ease. Spectrum needed an app that could simplify complex IoT functions into an intuitive experience—one that would encourage regular usage and highlight the true value of their hardware.

Solution

We started by understanding how residents and society managers interacted with the irrigation system. Through interviews and research, we learned that the most important need was simplifying the management of valves and dividing them into garden areas. Our workshops helped us translate these requirements into clear user journeys, ensuring the app would be practical and easy to use.

Next, we focused on creating intuitive flows where users could add new areas, combine valves, and set watering schedules without technical complexity. Prototypes were tested early, allowing us to refine the experience and keep it simple for both tech-savvy users and those less familiar with digital tools.

Finally, we designed a clean, modern interface with a centralized dashboard showing all connected areas at a glance. Core actions like scheduling, manual overrides, and notifications were placed logically for effortless use. The finished design package was handed over with developer-ready guidelines, and Spectrum’s beta launch has already received encouraging feedback from users.
